Copyright Notice

Copyright law varies from country to country but the same basic principle exists, that the design and content – in the case of a web page, the coding that generates them and the overall layout as well as some of the components in terms of graphics, etc - are protected by national and international laws. A web page has the same copyright protection as any other piece of work and is afforded the same intellectual property rights whether or not a copyright notice is appended.

Original web pages can take a long time to create and we spend considerable time and effort creating a unique feature rich site, we therefore take a very dim view of any copyright infringement of our work, be it web pages, text therein, layout, names, images or videos. In the case of most of the images on our sites we have Digimarc'd them with a unique serial number which can in some instances be traced across the web.

Colquhoun Imports hold the copyright to the pages they create and publish unless otherwise stated. Although we are not obliged to, we place a copyright notice at the foot of most pages as a reminder that the pages have a legal ownership.

The layout of our pages in general and in their particulars are also protected, a long time goes into the designing and building any particular page.

Plagiarizers steal web pages or images usually by amending a few minor points to claim uniqueness. This of course is an entirely ineffective way of avoiding an action for interdict, breach of copyright and potential damages.

As a preliminary to taking proceedings, we will normally request the hosting company or ISP to remove the offending pages in the first instance. It is our experience that they will normally comply with such a request as they themselves, having been given notice of the breach of copyright, find themselves in the same position as the plagiarist. We hope that we will not find it necessary to take this course of action.

Thanks,
